Roger Bastick

Roger has been an academic most of his working life till recently and has been involved in Environmental Studies/Science in both Australia and the UK. An overlapping interest has been Eastern philosophies, in particular, Taoism and Buddhism.

In the UK he was involved in the design of environmental studies degrees in the early eighties when these were still pioneering courses. He became the Course Director of a B.Sc (Hons) Environmental Science degree at the University of Greenwich in London till 1995.

Whilst in the UK he first studied Buddhism under a Ch'an (Zen) teacher in 1977 for four years and then continued his studies from about 1983 with the UK based Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (FWBO). During this period he also studied tai ch'i ch'uan for 15 years, ten years with the official number three family disciple of the famous Yang family, Master Chu King-hung.

When he returned to Australia in 1991, he continued his academic career in Environmental Studies first at the UNSW in Sydney till 1995 and then at the University of Queensland till 1997. From then till 2000 he has been lecturing and teaching part-time at USQ and working with UQG.

Since moving to Toowoomba in 1996 he has maintained ties with the FWBO in Sydney and Melbourne and set up a Buddhist centre in Toowoomba in 1998 moving more or less full time into it's directorship as well as setting up a Tai Chi school.

Roger is currently undergoing training for full ordination into the Western Buddhist Order.
